Make the Most of Google Scholar

Why Use Google Scholar?

Google Scholar searches across academic sites including publishers, universities, professional societies, online repositories and research organisations to give you access to a wide range of scholarly content. These include journal articles, e-books, conference proceedings, theses and more.

It offers:

  • Broad subject coverage - complementing specialist health databases
  • Full-text indexing (i.e. searching across all the words in articles or chapters) - very useful for hard to find information topics
  • Access to 'grey literature' not indexed elsewhere
  • Citation linking (to identify the most influential research impact and enabling 'cited by' search functionality)
  • Options to set up alerts, export to Endnote, save articles into a Library and more
  • Personal research profiles to promote your work and track your citations
