To mark Australian Library and Information Week 2025, Westmead Hospital Library and the NSW Statewide Health Literacy Hub invite you to a people-centred event that explores the power of reading—and what happens when people can't.
Words have the power to inform, confuse, connect, or empower.
Westmead Hospital BJ Amos Library and the NSW Statewide Health Literacy Hub invite you to an event that highlights the vital role libraries play in bridging knowledge and understanding.
The morning will begin with an interactive workshop – From Information to Empowerment. This session will give health professionals, students, and academics practical tools to turn complex information into clear, inclusive communication. We’ll explore how libraries help transform plain language, cultural competence, and equitable access into everyday practice.
A panel discussion will follow, bringing together clinicians, consumer advocates, library staff, and health literacy experts. Through real stories and lived experiences, the panel will show why words truly matter – and how libraries, as health literacy partners, can change the way people experience health information, care, and community.
Date: September 19th, Friday
Time: 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Venue: Westmead Hospital, Level 1, WECC Cabaret room
Light lunch will be provided
This is a free, in-person event. Spaces are limited. Please register by Thursday 18th September 2025.
**Supported by Westmead Simulation Centre (SiLECT) and ED Research TRUST**

The library is popping up in the K Block student kitchen on Thursday 31st July. Grab your lunch and come and join us, join the library, browse the books for loan trolley, grab some goodies, or speak to our staff about how the library can help you.
