2025 Library and Information Week

Overview

Welcome to Library & Information Week 2025!

This week, we proudly celebrate Library and Information Week 2025, a time to recognise the vital work of library and information professionals across Australia.

The theme this year focuses on Literacy Matters – a timely reminder that in today’s world of overwhelming information, the ability to find, understand, and apply trustworthy knowledge is more important than ever.

At WSLHD Libraries, we don’t just provide access to resources—we connect you with reliable, peer-reviewed, and current health information to support your clinical practice, research, and patient care. Whether you're answering a complex clinical question, developing education materials, or preparing for accreditation, our team is here to support you with fast, evidence-based answers.

As misinformation spreads more rapidly than ever, health libraries remain a trusted gateway to truth. This week is a chance to reflect on the power of purposeful reading, and the role accurate, evidence-based information plays in improving lives, learning, and health outcomes.

You are invited to attend events at any hospital.

  • We have spaces for you to relax, unwind, colour in, work through puzzles, read or simply have a cup of tea or coffee.
  • Special presenters to help you make the most of literature searching with the OVID database trainer. We can come to your department or visit the session in the Library.
  • Maybe you are thinking of publishing and want a short paper to start with. The BMJ Case Reports team has specialists to help you get published. Find out more here. Book a session at your hospital.
  • Join us for a cup of tea at Mount Druitt Hospital Library and contribute to the WSLHD Historical Archive. Share memories with fellow volunteers and staff while helping us identify important moments, people, events, and places captured in our curated collection of historical photographs.
  • Join us in a panel session co-hosted by Westmead Hospital Library and the Statewide Health Literacy Hub - Libraries as Health Literacy Partners. Literacy is a foundational determinant of health, yet nearly half of Australian adults have low levels of health literacy. In this session we will explore these issues with a dialogue between library services and health literacy champions, bringing together clinicians, consumers, library staff, and health professionals with real-life stories on why “reading” matters in health, a panel conversation exploring the power of literacy to support informed care, and resource displays promoting accessible communication in healthcare.
